The Oklahoma State Cowboys had an overall successful season. Making it to the conference championship game is never something to sneeze at. While the Texas Longhorns could do nothing wrong in the game, it wasn’t necessarily a surprise that they came out on top. In the offseason, the Cowboys are now focused on the transfer portal. A little bit of a surprise happened today when QB Gunnar Gundy, the son of head coach Mike Gundy, announced he was entering the transfer portal.

Oklahoma State Cowboys QB Gunnar Gundy Enters Transfer Portal

Overall, the Cowboys have had a tame start to the transfer portal. This move is likely motivated by more playing time. There was a quarterback carousel in Stillwater so Gunnar only threw 34 passes, completing 21 of them for 202 passing yards and one touchdown. The quarterback room isn’t any less crowded in 2024. Garret Rangel and Zane Flores are on the roster and 2024 commit Maealiuaki Smith might push for playing time.

A Little Funny

I chuckled at this one when I saw it. I’m sure that Mike Gundy and his son have talked this over but it is funny to think that Gundy cannot even keep his own son in the program. The Big 12 conference will be different next year with powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma leaving. This leaves a void at the top and the Cowboys are hoping to become the conference’s elite. 2023 was a good foundation and they hope it can propel them in 2024.

Who will play quarterback for the Cowboys in 2024? There are plenty of options but it will be interesting to see who ultimately wins the starting job.
