Oklahoma’s NFL talent was, once again, on display all weekend long. From Ceedee Lamb, to Marquise Brown, and Mark Andrews in Baltimore, OU DNA was running rampant at the professional level.
But the Denver Broncos had the clearest example of Sooners in the NFL on Sunday, battling back and overcoming the odds to knock off the Chicago Bears 31-28. Justin Fields and the Bears sprinted to a 28-7 start, but the Broncos, led by a handful of Oklahoma stars, figured out a way to get the job done.
On the offensive side of the ball, Marvin Mims Jr. didn’t find the endzone but made a clutch play to move the ball down the field when the Broncos needed it most. In the fourth quarter with 2:52 left, Mims hauled in a 48-yard reception that changed the trajectory of the game. It put the Broncos in field goal range and, ultimately, allowed them to win the game.
Nik Bonitto had one of the best performances of any former Sooner on the weekend. The edge rusher is really coming into his own. Bonitto totaled three tackles, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in Denver’s win. His fellow college teammate Delarrin Turner-Yell added nine tackles and a pass deflection in the process.
Other notables for the Broncos include Samaje Perine, who amassed 12 yards on the ground and 23 yards through the air, Ben Powers who started at guard, and Ronnie Perkins, who was inactive after being recently signed from the Patriots practice squad.
Oklahoma’s former quarterbacks had massive days on Sunday, as Jalen Hurts dominated with 319 yards and two touchdowns in an Eagles win.
Baker Mayfield had his best individual performance of the season in a huge divisional win, read about the entire game and watch his highlights HERE.
Mark Andrews turned in his best performance of the season, too, hauling in five catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns in a big time Cleveland win.
