South Carolina poised to make more noise in 2023 with Spencer Rattler returning

The South Carolina Gamecocks won seven of their last nine games to end the 2022 regular season and then put a scare to No. 21 Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.

Junior quarterback Spencer Rattler was a huge reason for South Carolina's end-of-season success, and he just gave the Gamecocks another win — but this time off the field.

Rattler, who spent 2019 to 2021 at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina, announced on Twitter that he'll be coming back for his redshirt senior season.

Though Rattler did lead the SEC in interceptions thrown with 12, it's tough to deny the impact he had for South Carolina as the Gamecocks became one of the hottest programs in the nation down the stretch.

He threw for 438 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions in South Carolina's 63-38 upset of No. 5 Tennessee. Rattler then followed that up with 360 yards and three total touchdowns (two interceptions) in another upset win, this time over No. 8 Clemson on the road.

Rattler, who was at one time considered a Heisman hopeful while at Oklahoma, should be one of the top quarterbacks in college football next season.

With him at the helm, South Carolina could end up making a lot of noise once again.
