One MAC assistant coach won't have to travel far for their next gig.

Syracuse formally announced on Wednesday the hiring of University of Buffalo Defensive Coordinator Robert Wright. Wright will become the Orange's Co-Defensive Coordinator as well as their Linebackers Coach.

Wright spent just one season at Buffalo, coaching the Bulls defense to allow 367.1 yards per game and 27.4 points per game in 2023.

"Robert Wright is up-and-coming and really, really intelligent," new Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown said, in a statement released by the University. "He's the co-DC here because he's done a good job at Buffalo and Texas A&M. Everyone speaks really highly of him. He understands the back end, he understands the front end and he can visualize things and see problems before they even happen. I'm excited to work with him and so are our players and staff."

Brown was hired at Syracuse in November after a stint as a defensive assistant at Georgia.

Wright was hired by UB last February as their special teams coordinator, but was quickly promoted to Defensive Coordinator to replace Brandon Bailey. Bailey left Buffalo that March to become Georgia Southern’s defensive coordinator.

Wright also has experience as an assistant on defense and special teams with Duke, Texas A&M, Iowa State, and Miami.
