Texas A&M fined $100,000 for fans storming field after win over Alabama

The Texas A&M Aggies shocked the college football world this past Saturday with an upset win over the previously top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, and fans celebrated the occasion by storming the field immediately after the contest:

Texas A&M realized that would be a costly offense, and the school has received its punishment.

Per Paolo Uggetti of ESPN, the SEC fined Texas A&M $100,000 for its second violation of the conference's policy regarding fans entering the field of play. The first offense occurred after the Aggies toppled the LSU Tigers in 2018.

Texas A&M will be fined $250,000 the next time fans storm the field.

The SEC guideline first introduced in 2004 states:

"Access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy."

The SEC fined the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kentucky Wildcats for their fans storming the field after victories earlier this season, but it's clear such punishments aren't deterring spectators from continuing the popular tradition this fall.
