Texas A&M football just got a huge boost for 2023 from WR Ainias Smith
Expectations were high for Texas A&M in 2022, but unfortunately, head coach Jimbo Fisher and his team couldn't deliver. From starting the season ranked No. 6 in the nation to finishing it unranked at 5-7 and ineligible for a bowl game, the 2022 season is one that the Aggies certainly want to put in the rear view mirror as soon as possible.
The best way to do that is to bounce back in 2023, and there's good news for the Aggies on that front. One of their best players from last season, wide receiver Ainias Smith, has announced that he'll be returning to College Station for his fifth college-football season.
"To my family and friends, I thank ya'll for being there for me and always checking up. I thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers which have gotten me to where I am now. I have made many prayers and have had a plethora of thoughts, but after everything, I had to make an important decision that will set up my future. With that said, I will be returning to school for one more year. Aggie nation, let's run it back!" Smith wrote.
Unfortunately for the senior wideout from Missouri City, Texas, he broke his leg in the fourth game of the season against Arkansas. Thus 2022 was largely a lost season for him.
He'll get one more chance in 2023, though, and Texas A&M has to be ecstatic that he's coming back. He caught 15 passes for 291 yards in his limited playing time with two touchdowns. Most of his damage came in the season opener when he caught six passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
He has 17 total touchdowns so far in his Texas A&M career and will be undoubtedly looking to add more to that total in a hopefully healthy 2023 season.
