Texas A&M LB Anthony Hines III entering NFL Draft

Texas A&M Aggies linebacker Anthony Hines III won't return to the team down the road after all.

Hines confirmed via social media on Monday that he will forego the remainder of his collegiate eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

The linebacker hasn't played for the 5-1 Aggies this fall after he opted out of the season on Sept. 20, but he previously left the door open to potentially play next year.

As a freshman back in 2017, Hines recorded 33 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble across 13 contests, and he earned Freshman All-SEC Team honors. Per Travis L. Brown of The Eagle, Hines missed the majority of the 2018 season with an ACL tear.

He returned to the field in 2019 and was second on the Aggies with 73 total tackles. Hines ended his final season with 10.5 tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries.

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football currently projects Hines will be either a final-day draft selection or an undrafted free agent. Due to a rule for the college campaign held amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Hines could have two years of eligibility remaining if he reverses course and returns to the program.

Texas A&M is currently dealing with coronavirus-related issues that caused the postponements of back-to-back games.
