Texas and Oklahoma will play as two unranked teams for the first time since 1998

It's usually must-see television when Texas and Oklahoma get together. The Red River Rivalry is one of the best not just in college football, but in sports in general.

That's because the rivalry normally features two good teams. At the very least one of the two teams — lately, Oklahoma — has been ranked. For the first time in 24 seasons, though, that's not going to be the case.

The Longhorns are 3-2 in Steve Sarkisian's second season as head coach, though one of their losses came against an unranked Big 12 opponent. The Longhorns went to Lubbock, Texas, ranked No. 22, and lost to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 37-34.

Things have been even worse for the Sooners in Brent Venables' first season in Norman. Oklahoma started 3-0 but has since lost two straight to unranked Big 12 opponents. The latest loss was a 55-24 drubbing at the hands of TCU that dropped the Sooners from No. 18 nationally to unranked.

One of these two schools will be able to pick up a huge win and some momentum moving forward toward the rest of the season. It's worth noting that at least according to recent history, that school should be Oklahoma.

The Sooners are 10-3 against Texas since 2010. That includes wins in the last three seasons straight.
