Texas legend Vince Young talks trash to current Longhorns at fall camp

Vince Young can say whatever he wants in Austin. His NFL career may not have panned out as the No. 3 pick in the 2006 draft, but Young is without a doubt a college football legend.

That's why there was very little "back talk" when the 2023 Longhorns took the field on Wednesday for the start of fall training camp. Young was in attendance, and according to Chip Brown of 247Sports, the former Texas quarterback let his feelings fly in the form of a little bit of smack talk.

“That’s 20 pushups, Mitchell, be accountable,” Young yelled at transfer receiver (from Georgia) Adonai Mitchell after he dropped a ball in drills.

“You ain’t ready, rook!” he shouted at freshman running back C.J. Baxter, a former five-star recruit. “You didn’t even tape your wrists right!”

Again, from anyone else, this type of talk from someone who wasn't a coach may garner some grumbles. From Young, though? There's no room to talk when he's calling you out.

In fact, Texas' coaching staff might consider hiring him.

"We need him here every day of camp, staying on top of everyone. No one talks trash like that dude," a Texas staffer told Brown.

A 2019 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Young led Texas to arguably the most exciting BCS National Championship win of all time in the 2006 Rose Bowl. Texas beat a stacked USC team, 41-38, highlighted by this game-winning touchdown run from Young.

Young threw for 6,040 yards and 44 touchdowns (28 interceptions) in three seasons in Austin. He also rushed for and incredible 3,127 yards and 37 touchdowns.
