Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is starting to heat up in the transfer portal. He has landed a couple of offensive weapons in the past couple of days, which should help quarterback Quinn Ewers put up huge stats in 2024. Sarkisian hasn’t forgotten about the defensive side of the ball. Former Alabama linebacker Kendrick Blackshire announced he is committing to the program.

Texas Longhorns Land LB Kendrick Blackshire

Blackshire isn’t the first defensive piece Sarkisian has landed this offseason. The biggest prize was UTSA’s Trey Moore, but getting a player like Blackshire will help strengthen the unit. He could never find the field on defense at Alabama. Blackshire mostly played special teams and totaled 25 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in three seasons. The talented linebacker had this to say about the move.

“The coaching staff, Sark, and being back home in the greatest state, Texas. It means a lot to me. Also being with a group of people who want to see me succeed and be successful.”

2024 Outlook

Texas knows their first season in the SEC isn’t going to be easy. Looking at the schedule, the Longhorns will play many of the top teams in college football. In the third week of the season, they will travel to the Big House to take on the Michigan Wolverines. During SEC play, matchups against Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Florida are all on the schedule. While these games will be tough, the Longhorns have the talent to compete with these teams.

The Texas Longhorns are eager to show this season was not a fluke. They are back in the conversation of elite teams in college football, and getting talent like this will help them stay there.
