The Texas Longhorns are back! After winning the Big 12, they have a date with the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff. However, they are not immune to players leaving for the transfer portal. Wide receiver Casey Cain announced he would be entering the portal today.

Texas Longhorns WR Casey Cain Enters Transfer Portal

Cain was supposed to be a huge part of the offense but never caught on. In 2022, he had just nine catches, and in 2023 he had one catch for 13 yards. It isn’t a surprise to see him in the portal as he is likely looking to be a bigger part of a program. Cain still has two years of eligibility remaining, so he has plenty of time to make an impact with another program. For the Longhorns, this is likely not a huge loss, as he wasn’t a huge part of the offense anyway.

Move To The SEC

Texas has found its groove at the perfect time. Their move to the SEC in 2024 comes with a very tough schedule. In the non-conference slate, they play Michigan the second week of the season. In the SEC, they play Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma, though all three of those games are either at home or at a neutral site. This season has been great, but next year will be a huge test to see if Texas can sustain this type of success.

Can the Texas Longhorns finish the 2023 with a national championship? It would be a huge boost for this storied program going into next season.
