Texas, Oklahoma notify Big 12 of decision to leave conference in 2025, expected to move to SEC

Texas and Oklahoma released a joint statement Monday informing the Big 12 they will not renew their grants of media rights when their current deals expire in 2025, according to The Athletic's Max Olson.

The Longhorns and Sooners are expected to join the SEC once the agreement has concluded.

According to the Houston Chronicle's Brent Zwerneman, the SEC could announce the additions of Texas and Oklahoma "within a couple of weeks."

The additions of Texas and Oklahoma would make the SEC the first 16-team super conference. Administrators reportedly believe the larger impact of the move could significantly damage college football. One ACC athletic director wondered if the move would lead to a 32-team "super conference," according to ESPN.

Oklahoma has competed in the Big 12 since 1996. The Sooners have finished first in the conference in six consecutive seasons. Texas, meanwhile, has also been in the Big 12 since 1996. However, the Longhorns haven't finished first in the conference since 2009. Last season, they went 5-3.
