Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers declared his intention for the 2024 season Thursday in a video he posted on his social media accounts.

The Junior signal-caller was projected to be a first-round draft pick in April if he decided to leave Texas for the NFL. Ewers’ odds of being picked higher in the first round were probably better if he waited for the 2025 draft, though, as the 2024 class is littered with quarterback talent. Ewers also has unfinished business at Texas, with the Longhorns losing in the College Football Playoff semifinals on New Year’s Day.

Quinn Ewers chooses to return to Texas in 2024

The latter two reasons, coupled with NIL funding, appear to have outweighed an immediate NFL future for Ewers. Per a video posted on his X account, the college star will be returning to Texas for the 2024 season.

“Dear Longhorn Nation, ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of playing football at the University of Texas,” Ewers said in the video. “I couldn’t be more thankful for all my teammates and coaches, and I’m beyond grateful to be in the position I’m in. God has shown me who I am these past two years that I have been here, and through the ups and downs, these fans and this university have always had my back. With that being said, I’m coming back. Hook ‘Em.”

The NFL loses a top QB prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft

Ewers’ decision is a big deal for NFL general managers this winter. Several NFL teams are heading into April’s draft needing a quarterback. Ewers’ choice to forgo the 2024 NFL Draft will create less supply in the quarterback market.

Ewers is apparently hoping for higher demand in that market for the 2025 draft.
