Texas Southern is expected to announce Fred McNair as the next head football coach for the Tigers. The news was first reported by HBCU Sports on Wednesday.

The university announced that former head coach Clarence McKinney would not return after a disappointing 3-8 season. McKinney finished his career with an overall record of 12-35 over five seasons.

McNair is a two-time SWAC Coach of the Year and led Alcorn State to back-to-back Celebration Bowl appearances in 2018-19. He is 48-33 since 2016 and has won two SWAC Championships with the Braves.

Alcorn State and McNair were in negotiations regarding a new contract as McNair's current contract was set to expire this month. Sources suggest that there was a disagreement on the length of the new contract between the two parties.

A formal announcement from the university is expected this week. This story will be updated with more information.
