Texas Tech football to continue practicing despite coronavirus outbreak

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Texas Tech Red Raiders football program intends to continue with practices despite having 21 active coronavirus cases.

ESPN's Heather Dinich is reporting that all but three of the known active COVID-19 cases within the school's athletic department come from the football program. Those who have tested positive for the virus are in self-isolation as others remained in training sessions.

Per the university's health and safety protocols, any student-athlete who tests positive for the coronavirus must immediately enter self-isolation. Dinich didn't add if the football program will reverse course upon the discovery of additional active cases.

On Aug. 17, North Carolina declared that student-athlete workouts would continue regardless of an on-campus coronavirus outbreak. However, the school temporarily suspended all athletic activities two days later.

As Riley Gates of 247Sports noted, North Carolina lifted those restrictions on Sunday.
