Trevor Lawrence responds to commitment criticism: 'I am driven to be the best'
After being quoted in a Sports Illustrated article saying, "I don't have this huge chip on my shoulder," many have been questioning Clemson product Trevor Lawrence's commitment and passion for football. Fans have even taken the opportunity to say he doesn't have what it takes to win a Super Bowl.
The presumed No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft cleared the air on Saturday with a lengthy Twitter post, saying, "I am driven to be the best," after his comments were widely misinterpreted.
Lawrence has always been seen as a leader. He began his college career with the Tigers in 2018 and won a national championship. He finished his career at Clemson with more than 10,000 yards and a 66.6 completion percentage. Quite frankly, if he wasn't cut out for professional football, NFL scouts would have identified that by now.
His commitment to football really shouldn't be questioned at this point, but top quarterbacks in the draft are frequently put under the microscope. The Jaguars likely have little to worry about with Lawrence, who is expected to usher in a new era of football in Jacksonville.
