The Florida State Seminoles traveled to North Carolina to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as they were searching for their eighth win on the season, looking to remain undefeated.
With the College Football Playoff rankings coming out this next week, the Seminoles had an opportunity to continue building the narrative that surrounds the program. While it doesn't necessarily matter where the Seminoles are in the first poll, their strength of schedule remaining isn't the greatest, and they'll want whatever advantage they can get.
Well, the Seminoles took care of business. While they didn't put together a consistent four quarters of play to absolutely route the Demon Deacons, they still handily won the matchup, finishing the game 41-16.
In the game, Trey Benson was huge. While he only had 55 yards on the ground with ten touches, he had an important 18-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to finish putting the game away.
The ground game wasn't the only way Benson impacted the game, though. He added 100 receiving yards on four catches, one of which was an 80-yard receiving touchdown on a screen pass.
Benson spoke of the long screen pass touchdown after the game.
“I told Keon we’d meet in the end zone before the play. No one was gonna catch me,” Benson said.
It looked as if Benson was running with some intent. He stepped on the gas and broke a couple of tackles before breaking free and finishing the touchdown.
On the day, the Seminoles finished with 41 yards, which extended their season-long streak of scoring at least 30 points. Even being shorthanded at wide receiver, the Seminoles took care of business on that side of the field.
“This offense is unreal and we still haven’t played our best game. I look forward to playing our best game," Benson said.
For a team that wants to be a competitor in the College Football Playoffs, it's encouraging that they've got room to grow. Their win over LSU has proven they're capable of rising to a challenge of such, and if the offense can get even better before a potential playoff berth, they'll be in good hands.
The Seminoles playing through Benson when he plays this well only opens things up even more for Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, and Jordan Travis having that capability makes this offense one of the most dangerous in college football.
