Urban Meyer explains why Ohio State's CFP ranking is accurate

Urban Meyer may not be a completely unbiased source of opinion on the Ohio State Buckeyes. He coached at OSU for seven seasons, after all. That's one season longer than his stint with the Florida Gators, and we know Meyer certainly has a blind spot for that program.

With that said, Meyer is spot on regarding his latest take on the newly released College Football Playoff rankings. At 8-0, the Buckeyes are ranked No. 1.

Georgia, Michigan and Florida State are two through four, respectively.

“I think they considered Ohio State has by far the best resume in college football, so I think they got it right,” Meyer said on "Urban’s Take with Tim May" (h/t On3). “Now as teams play harder; like the Wolverines haven’t played (anybody). When you look at their schedule they haven’t played a third quarter, but they’re playing like a top team. So that all is going to come to a head soon.”

Meyer is right that the rubber will very soon meet the road for the likes of Michigan and even Georgia.

While OSU has played and beaten No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 7 Penn State, Michigan is 8-0 against teams that have gone a combined 31-33 this season. It has been a middling schedule, to say the least.

Georgia, on the other hand, is 8-0 and has played only one ranked team in No. 20 Kentucky. If the Bulldogs are going to go to another CFP, they're about to earn it, though. They play ranked Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee before the season is out.

Michigan will play No. 11 Penn State on the road in mid-November and, of course, OSU to end the season.
