USC might avoid extreme cold weather in first Big Ten season

Next season will be the first for West Coast powerhouse USC joining the primarily Midwest-based Big Ten Conference, but anyone hoping to see the Los Angeles-based team play in snow might have to wait another year.

The 2024 schedule has been released, and while the Trojans face the Michigan Wolverines and Minnesota Golden Gofers, who are no stranger to snowy conditions, they won't face any potentially frigid environments after the first weekend of October. (UCLA, Oregon and Washington will also play in the Big Ten in 2024.)

USC plays at Michigan on Sept. 21 and at Minnesota on Oct. 5.

Penn State and Wisconsin, other foes from potentially snowy spots, will both play the Trojans in Los Angeles. In fact, the Trojans don't leave the West Coast after Oct. 19, when they play at the Maryland Terrapins.

The only real possibility for a snow game comes when USC travels to Seattle to face Washington on Nov. 2. Last year, Seattle received November snow, but it came at the end of the month, and it was only 0.2 inches. That's hardly Ann Arbor in December.

"USC’s chance of snow exposure in its first Big Ten football season? Basically nil," noted Los Angeles Times USC beat reporter Ryan Kartje.

If you're a fan of seeing warm-weather teams play in the snow, don't fret. The 2025 Trojans schedule includes games at Purdue, Illinois and Nebraska.

So go ahead and buy yourself a cardinal coat and some gold gloves, Trojan fans. At some point, you'll have to put away the Hawaiian shirts and dress for some cold-weather football. It's just a matter of time.
