The Utes have had a very successful time fishing in the transfer portal up to this point in the offseason, filling crucial positions of need that were left weakened due to the draft or the portal, but one particular role has still yet to be addressed according to 247 Sports

Kevin Flaherty of 247 Sports has emphasized the need for the Utes to find "an insurance policy for Cameron Rising who can play right away if needed, and someone comfortable with developing behind Rising if Rising is full-go, with aims on taking over the job after Rising leaves after this season." He then goes on to say that former Auburn QB Robby Ashford would have been the ideal fit for Coach Whittingham if he had picked the Utes over his new home South Carolina.

For the 2024 season, the Utah QB room will consist of Rising who will be the undisputed starter and leader of the team, Brandon Rose who still has plenty of questions surrounding him, and Isaac Wilson who is expected to take over the reins come 2025.

With the questions surrounding Rose arising after his absence in the Las Vegas Bowl despite the poor play from Bryson Barnes, it would seem ideal for the program to still push for a plug-and-play QB, especially with the injury concerns that follow Rising. The last thing the program and fans want is a repeat of the 2023 season, and to ensure success in such a crucial campaign, a portal Q, even for one season is a must.
