The University of Washington football team previously played its spring game against a team of alumni, notably active NFL players such as Ben Davidson, before this approach ended because of the possible injury consequences.

The Huskies once played the game at the now-defunct Kingdome, going indoors to finish up before there were Seattle Mariners.

Adding yet another twist to this football springtime ritual, new Husky coach Jedd Fisch announced on Tuesday that his first spring game will be held at night on Friday, May 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The event has been christened Dawgs After Dark and it will be free to the fans.

"What an opportunity to see the team!" Fisch said in a social-media posting.

The game comes on Opening Day weekend for boaters and possibly was moved to avoid any conflicts with the annual aquatic activities, which include the UW's  Windermere Cup rowing regatta, though that wasn't spelled out by the school.

Fisch will have 15 spring practices to rebuild a Husky football team that advanced to the College Football Playoff championship game against Michigan under coach Kalen DeBoer.

With DeBoer moving to Alabama, Fisch arrived from Arizona to take over a UW team returning just two starters in cornerback Elijah Jackson and linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala.

Fisch will open up all of his spring practices, which begin in three weeks on April 2, to Husky fans, a practice that runs counter to previous coaches.
