Vanderbilt stuns Kentucky to end 26-game SEC losing streak
The Vanderbilt Commodores are finally back in the win column in SEC play.
Thanks to their 24-21 win over No. 24 ranked Kentucky on Saturday, the Commodores were able to snap what had been a 26-game losing streak within the SEC that went all the way back to the 2019 season.
Their last win over an SEC opponent before Saturday came on Oct. 19, 2019, when they defeated the Missouri Tigers by a 21-14 margin.
Saturday's game had a thrilling ending as the Commodores were able to take the lead with just 35 seconds to play on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Mike Wright to Will Sheppard.
Vanderbilt also did a great job shutting down Kentucky's offense and forced quarterback Will Levis into a miserable performance. Levis, a potential first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, finished the day just 11-of-23 passing for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Even more than the 26-game conference losing streak, dating back to the start of the 2017 season Vanderbilt is just 6-41 in SEC play and entered Saturday's game as a double-digit underdog.
None of that mattered on Saturday as the Commodores were able to go on the road and steal a win against a ranked opponent.
