Veteran cornerback Warren Burrell from Suwanee, Georgia, officially entered the transfer portal on Thursday. Burrell is a 6-0, 180-pound redshirt senior who has been with Tennessee for many years and recently hasn’t been getting many snaps on the defensive side of the ball. He was a starter during the 2021 season and went through a full season in that position. Following that, he went through a few games as a starter in 2022 before suffering a season-ending injury early on, which led to him being eligible for a medical redshirt. The former North Gwinnett high school corner had limited snaps this season and didn’t get as many looks as some expected as he was shuffled down the depth chart.

Burrell was named to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list earlier on during the preseason. Leading into this season, Burrell accounted for 22 starts in his Volunteer career and played in 40 games. He accounted for 89 total tackles, 9 pass breakups, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery, according to UTSPORTS.COM. The 22-year-old corner He earned his bachelor’s degree in communication studies in December 2022 and is working towards a master’s degree in agricultural leadership, education, and communications. recipient of the Mack Dove Athletic Scholarship and the Sendele Family Endowment Scholarship, according to UTSPORTS.COM.

Overall, this transfer does not come as a surprise, as Tennessee is locked and loaded when it comes to bringing in defensive backs, no matter if that’s from the portal or from recruiting. Burrell has certainly given his all to the coaches, teammates, and supporters of Tennessee. It will be interesting to see which team lands the talented redshirt.
