Watch: First female non-kicker makes college football debut at safety, recording QB hurry

Shenandoah University junior Haley Van Voorhis made history on Saturday, becoming the first female non-kicker to play NCAA Football.

Van Voorhis spent the past two seasons playing for Division III Shenandoah's JV team, receiving her first varsity action Saturday against Juniata. She wasted little time taking advantage of her opportunity. With over a minute left in the first quarter, blitzing off the edge, Van Voorhis rushed quarterback Quintin Stephens into an incompletion, registering a hurry on the play.

At 5-foot-6, 145 pounds, Van Voorhis proves that anything is possible, no matter the obstacles. In a 2022 interview with Fox 5 in Washington, D.C., Van Voorhis revealed the advice she'd pass on to young girls wanting to follow in her footsteps.

"Nothing is stopping you. There's no barriers in the way," Van Voorhis said. "If you want to go as far as college, NFL, anything you dream of – go for it. Football is a great sport."
