After struggling on defense in 2021, North Carolina head coach Mack Brown brought back one of his old coaches to take over the defense. UNC defensive coordinator Gene Chizik won a national championship with Brown as his DC at Texas, now they have paired up again at Chapel Hill. According to Mack Brown and UNC linebacker Cedric Gray, Chizik's coaching is already making a noticeable difference for the Tar Heels.
