Watch: Oklahoma jump-pass attempt goes terribly wrong as part of horrible first half

The Oklahoma Sooners are a football team trending in the wrong direction, and the first half of Saturday's Red River Showdown against rival Texas was a complete disaster.

The meltdown got an exclamation point when running back Eric Gray attempted a jump pass out of the Wildcat formation only to have it be easily intercepted on one of the worst plays of the 2022 college football season.

Just look at this mess.

Oklahoma was already trailing 21-0 and had finally started to move the ball by running out of the Wildcat formation, successfully moving down the field on that drive. The Sooners attempted to get tricky at that point by allowing Gray to attempt a jump pass, a play that is usually reserved for down around the goal line or short-yardage situations.

This was neither, as it was 1st-and-10 out near the 20-yard line. Just a horribly timed call that was played even worse. Bad stuff all around.

Texas scored on the ensuing drive to take a 28-0 lead in the second quarter.

Oklahoma started the year with a 3-0 record but came into the game with back-to-back losses to Kansas State and TCU, allowing 96 points in the two games. Things are not going any better on Saturday against Texas.
