The annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis offers prospects an opportunity to improve their stock ahead of April's draft. During the first day of athletic testing, Penn State defensive lineman Demeioun "Chop" Robinson took full advantage.
On Thursday, the 6-foot-3, 254-pounder posted the fastest 40-yard dash time among edge-rushers, clocking in at a ridiculous 4.48 seconds.
According to reporter Marcus Mosher, Robinson's 10-yard split of 1.54 was the fastest time recorded ever by an edge-rusher over 250 pounds.
Robinson transferred from Maryland to PSU following his freshman season, posting 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and 41 tackles (9.5 for loss) over 22 starts as a Nittany Lion. Ahead of the draft, he's among the top-ranked edge-rushers available alongside Dallas Turner (Alabama), Jared Verse (FSU) and Laiatu Latu (UCLA).
Despite not having all the qualities of the names listed above, his intangibles stand out according to a scouting report from Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network.
"He doesn't have the elite length or raw power element that many crave in top-tier edge defenders," Cummings wrote. "But Robinson nevertheless wins with all kinds of different qualities, and he compensates in the power realm with his momentum generation, strength, leverage and relentless drive."
