Watch: Texas pulls out trick play to take huge lead in Big 12 title game

Quarterback Quinn Ewers took the snap and handed it to running back CJ Baxter (No. 4) as he crossed the formation. He then tossed the ball to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (No. 5) who quickly relayed the ball back to Ewers. 

Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (No. 0) began the play as an in-line blocker before releasing and getting wide-open in the secondary for an easy touchdown.

No. 7 Texas (11-1) needs a win and help to reach the College Football Playoff. Its hot offensive start has given it a decent chance of taking care of the first part of the equation, but it will have to wait until later in the day to see if it has a path to the playoff.

No. 3 Washington (13-0) clinched a spot in the playoff with its Pac-12 Championship Game win on Friday, and No. 1 Georgia (12-0), No. 2 Michigan (12-0) and No. 4 Florida State (12-0) will join them with wins. 

The playoff might be out of their control, but a Big 12 title would be an excellent consolation prize for the Longhorns in their final year as a conference member.

Texas is leaving for the SEC in 2024 and has taken barbs from the Big 12, including conference commissioner Brett Yormark, in the lead-up to its departure. He downplayed the team's recruiting success at Big 12 media days in July, pointing to their lack of recent conference championship game appearances, then told Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire to "take care of business" against the Longhorns in their Week 13 game, a 57-7 Texas win.

So far in the Big 12 title game, Texas is pulling out all the stops to ensure it gets the last laugh.
