AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns have put last month's heartbreaking season-ending loss to the Washington Huskies behind them and are continuing the first steps of making it back to the College Football Playoff next season by working their way through winter workouts.

Ahead of their first season in the SEC, the Longhorns have lost some major contributors from the 2023 CFP squad, but have retained arguably their most important player in quarterback Quinn Ewers. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has said how valuable Ewers' presence will be next season, so it's only right for the starting signal-caller to take the reins during Tuesday's workout at DKR.

He led a "H-O-R-N-S" chant while the team began warmups and "set the tone," as the Texas X account put it.

Take a look:

“We’re going to need his leadership,” Sarkisian said of Ewers on National Signing Day. “We’ve got some new faces on the offensive side of the ball, especially at the skill positions, where his leadership is going to be very important.”

This past season, Ewers went 272 of 394 passing for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions while adding five rushing touchdowns as the Longhorns won the Big 12 and clinched a CFP berth with a 12-1 record. Ewers also missed two games due to injury.

Before Texas fans know it, the Orange-White Spring Game will be right around the corner before kicking off at DKR on Saturday, April 20.
