Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule has instituted a new competition for the Huskers this spring. It’s called the “Spring League.”

It splits the Huskers up into three different teams. There are competitions and the teams can change based on the general managers of each team. There are changes to be made after each competition and on Wednesday, it was the “Rattle Snake Boys” who came out on top.

Nebraska football spring practice highlights

That’s just one of three teams. It was quarterbacked by Heinrich Haarberg. Yet, beyond who won the competition, there were a couple of highlights that caught my eye.

Freshman wide receiver Jacory Barney, a four-star wideout and early enrollee, has put together a solid camp and hauled in what looked like approximately a 5o-yard bomb down the field.

You couldn’t see who threw the ball but it was impressive to see Barney go up and get it. The dynamic freshman has been on the radar of Nebraska football fans and will be even more after his highlight-reel catch.

Nebraska football has a fierce battle going on in the secondary to be the No. 2 cornerback behind Tommi Hill. Malcolm Hartzog is going to play cornerback and safety, but if the Huskers get another quality option on the outside, it will make it easier for Hartzog to play a hybrid role.

Ethan Nation is among those in competition for the No. 2 spot. The three-star signee out of high school saw action on special teams and as a return guy as a freshman. Wednesday, he notched an interception and flashed his massive potential for the future.

It will be fun to see how it all comes together for the spring game and more importantly, next fall.
