Another former Georgia Bulldogs star is back in the headlines for dangerous driving, and this time it involves Nolan Smith allegedly being clocked at an unbelievable 135 mph on a Georgia interstate.
According to reports from ESPN and the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office, the Philadelphia Eagles linebacker was arrested after authorities said he was driving a 2026 Lamborghini 135 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 16. Police also accused Smith of reckless driving after reportedly observing him rapidly changing lanes without signaling.

Smith was arrested on May 15 and later released on bond. A court date is reportedly scheduled for July 14.
The story immediately exploded online because it continues a troubling pattern connected to Georgia football and speeding-related incidents. Ever since the tragic crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy in January 2023, the Georgia program has repeatedly faced criticism over traffic violations involving players and former players.
And this is not even Smith’s first driving-related incident. Reports noted he previously faced traffic violations back in 2022 while still playing at Georgia.
What makes this situation especially shocking is the speed itself. 135 mph is not simply “speeding.” That is the kind of speed where one mistake can instantly become fatal — not only for the driver, but for innocent people on the road. Fans online were stunned that an NFL player who already achieved massive success could still make a decision this reckless.
The timing is also terrible for both Smith and the Eagles. Philadelphia recently exercised the fifth-year option on Smith’s contract after he emerged as one of the team’s most important defensive players during their Super Bowl run.
Smith has become a key piece of the Eagles defense over the past two seasons, recording sacks at a high level while helping Philadelphia remain one of the NFC’s top contenders. The former first-round pick was viewed as one of the biggest success stories to come from Georgia’s dominant championship defenses.
But once again, the conversation surrounding Georgia football is not entirely about winning championships or producing NFL stars. It is about discipline, driving culture, and why these stories continue to happen over and over again.
At some point, people are going to stop calling these isolated incidents.
