Bobby Bowden endorses Donald Trump's re-election in letter after recovering from COVID

Former Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden gave an update on his fight with COVID-19 and offered an endorsement of President Donald Trump in the upcoming election, saying that he hoped to stay alive long enough to cast a vote for the incumbent.

"I want to thank all the many, many people who were thinking of and praying for me over the last few weeks," Bowden wrote in a letter. "I just went through a battle with COVID-19 and God just wasn’t ready to take me home yet to be with him. Most of you know I’m 91 years old and the fight was tough. But thanks to the help of Dr. Michael Forsthoefel and the support of [wife] Ann and all my children I beat it. I’ve had the chance to get a lot of wins in my life but I really wanted to win this one because I wanted to be around to vote for President Trump."

Bowden has long been outspoken about his support for Trump, endorsing him in 2016 and even campaigning for him in Florida, a crucial state that Trump ended up winning to seal his win over Hillary Clinton. Bowden said his primary reason for standing by Trump is that he believes he will make the military stronger, saying that everything he thinks make America great "could not happen without a strong military. They are the ones that defend us.

Trump clearly appreciated the endorsement from Bowden, as he tweeted out his support for Bowden's recovery, praising Bowden as "one of the best coaches ever in college football" and touting the fact that he has "over 300 wins and 2 national championships."
