After selecting now-former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers in the seventh round of last month's 2025 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have assigned him their No. 14 jersey.
A potential nod to the fact that Ewers was the 14th quarterback taken in this year's draft.
Ewers wore No. 3 while starring in Austin, leading Steve Sarkisian's team to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals.
ESPN's Todd Archer spoke to Ewers' agent, Ron Slavin, to find out why the former five-star recruit, who first played with the Ohio State Buckeyes, fell so far in the order.
"The day after the draft, Slavin said he reached out to 'half the league' to find out what happened," Archer wrote on Saturday. "'They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick, but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder,' Slavin said. 'Which I think is chickens---.'"
Ewers explained his draft experience in that same story. Now, he'll get to learn behind Tua Tagovailoa in Mike McDaniel's offense. Ewers believes he wound up in an advantageous situation.
"I just didn't know what was going on," Ewers told ESPN a few days after the draft. "But, I mean, it was nice (to get drafted), because at one point, I'm like, 'I'm not even going to get drafted. I'm going to go undrafted.'
"It was very unexpected, and I think that the toughest part about it is just the of unexpected occurrences there were. But I'm glad that I ended up where I ended up. To go as late as I did, I'm glad it's a good spot."
