Georgia vs. Alabama College Football Playoff title game betting guide

It's an all-SEC National Championship Game for the second time, a rematch of the 2017 College Football Playoff championship between Georgia and Alabama.

These two met just over a month ago in the SEC title game, with Alabama decidedly winning, 41-24. Much can change in a few weeks, this betting preview will explore both teams, their previous matchup, and our best bets for the big game.

Alabama has the Heisman winner in quarterback Bryce Young, while Georgia comes into the title game with a cleaner bill of health.

Game details

Teams: No. 3 Georgia (13-1) vs. No. 1 Alabama (13-1)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Time: Monday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. EST on ESPN

Betting details

Spread: Georgia -2.5 (-120 on DraftKings) | Alabama +2.5 (+100)

Total: 51.5 points (-115)

Moneyline: Georgia -140 | Alabama +120

As of this writing, Georgia is the favorite to take home its first CFB championship, as the Bulldogs are 2.5-point favorites despite losing by 17 in December.

This spread seems to have settled here due to differing health statuses. Alabama is out at least one starting corner in Josh Jobe and may be out another in Jalyn Armour-Davis.

They Tide will also be without second-leading receiver John Metchie III (96 receptions for 1,142 yards), who injured his knee against the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, the sentiment out of Georgia's camp is this is the healthiest team they've had all season, with potential first-round pick WR George Pickens expected to play the most he has all season.

Georgia is 9-5 against the spread (ATS) this season, while Alabama is 8-6 ATS.

Established great Nick Saban against his former assistant Kirby Smart, this should be an instant-classic SEC battle.

Georgia's strength and stat leaders

Georgia's 13-1 season can be attributed to an elite attack on both ends, but its defensive effort in particular deserves recognition.

The Bulldogs have allowed an average of just 9.5 points per game, with Alabama the lone team to score more than 17 against them.

Now, Alabama blew by that number, finishing the game with 41 points. Still, Georgia's consistency is a huge reason for its success this season and, if it wins this game, it's likely because the Bulldogs stifled the Crimson Tide offense.

The Bulldogs bounced back nicely from their loss, holding No. 2 Michigan to just one touchdown in a 34-11 win in the CFP semifinal.

Stat leaders

Quarterback Stetson Bennett leads the offense, throwing for 2,638 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His leading receiver is tight end Brock Bowers, who's caught 52 balls for 846 yards and 12 scores.

The Bulldogs employ a dual-headed rushing attack led by Zamir White and James Cook. The two have combined for 1,423 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.

Linebacker Nakobe Dean anchors this defense, leading the team in tackles (68) and sacks (6) and second in interceptions (2).

Alabama's strength and stat leaders

Alabama prefers to win with an offensive onslaught, averaging 41.1 points per game and nearly 500 yards of total offense.

Heisman winner Bryce Young is at the helm of this explosive offense that has won eight straight games since a midseason loss to Texas A&M.

The Tide plenty of defensive talent to slow down offenses, so they, like Georgia, sport a balance on both sides that makes a championship team.

The Crimson Tide handled No. 4 Cincinnati with ease in the CFP semifinal, winning 27-6.

Stat leaders

Young has thrown for 46 touchdowns and 4,503 yards, while adding three rushing touchdowns to the tally. He should cross the 50-TD mark in Monday's game.

Brian Robinson is the bell-cow back in this offense, rushing for 1,275 yards and 14 scores.

Jameson Williams will have an extra burden on him to produce without Metchie opposite him. Williams has 75 receptions this season for 1,507 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Sophomore Will Anderson Jr. has racked up 17.5 sacks this season, most in the nation.

A look back on their last game

The SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama was close at halftime, with Alabama leading 24-17 at intermission.

Turnover issues plagued the Bulldogs in the second half and caused the 17-point defeat.

Alabama opened the second half with a touchdown drive, and Georgia seemed poised to do the same, putting together an 11-play drive in response. Bennett threw a costly interception in the red zone that took points off the board.

The turnovers continued on the next two drives. After a Crimson Tide punt, Georgia put together a 12-play drive but went for it on fourth down in the red zone and turned the ball over on downs.

The next throw Bennett had was a pick-six, leading to a 38-17 Alabama lead that put the game on ice.

Remove the turnovers, and maybe that's a different game and Alabama isn't even in the CFP. Georgia's best chance this time around will be playing mistake-free football.

CFB Championship betting pick

It's hard to bet against Nick Saban in the championship — the man is 3-1 in CFP championships, including last year.

Having a chance to bet on Saban as an underdog is extremely rare, with Monday's game just the 11th time in his Alabama career.

Georgia is a bit healthier and should keep it closer if it limits the turnovers. Still, Alabama has the Heisman winner on their side, the best coach in college football and a roster loaded with NFL talent.

Georgia hasn't beaten Alabama since 2007; the Crimson Tide just have the Bulldogs' number.

The smarter bet here feels like betting Alabama outright, with slightly better odds.
