SEC commissioner Greg Sankey acknowledged the conference's Media Days blunder when Texas A&M's "Aggie War Hymn" played as Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian walked onto the stage.

"So, mistakes happen," Sankey said. "No ill intent there."

Sarkisian did not react to the song and got right to addressing the media with his opening statement. However, it got people wondering if, to make up for it, Aggies head coach Mike Elko would walk out to the Longhorn's fight song.

As he took the stage, "The Eyes of Texas" was not queued. The "Aggie War Hymn" played once again and the head coach decided to poke fun at those who wanted the in-state rival's song to play.

“For those of you who had me walking out to 'The Eyes of Texas,'" Elko started once the Aggie fight song faded and he took his place at the podium. "You lost your bet."

Putting the Lone Star State rivalry aside, Elko directed his focus to his Texas A&M Aggies. According to Pete Thamel, while Elko didn't give a definite answer on where he thinks his team will land in the SEC, he said that Texas A&M should hit double digits in NFL draft picks in 2026. Double digit selections is usually an indicator as to which team will win the conference.

"That’ll be the first time Texas A&M has done that in a very long time," Elko said.

He enters his second season with the Aggies with excitement. After building a foundation in his first year in College Station, Elko has high hopes for where his team can go in 2025.
