“Did not have our team ready to play today... Came out and definitely did not play in any way to the standard we’re capable of.”

Florida State football suffered their first ever loss to an FCS opponent as Jacksonville State hit a hail mary on the last play of the game to top FSU 20-17. FSU is now 0-2 on the season and 3-8 under Mike Norvell. Norvell spoke to the media after the loss. Here’s some of what he had to say:

On performance: “Did not have our team ready to play today... Came out and definitely did not play in any way to the standard we’re capable of.”

“Penalties, self-inflicted would mistakes mentally... That is 100% on me. Did not have the guys ready to go. That’s something that will be fixed.”

“Supremely disappointed in how we played in a lot of phases.”

“I expected us to play better, to make the adjustments we needed to make. Obviously, that did not occur.”

“I apologize to our fan base, our university, all Seminoles for that performance. I take ownership of it.”

On the last play of the game: “Ran a two deep, man under. Wanted to make sure we got pressure on the quarterback but having coverage over the top. They still had one timeout, to not give up something underneath or the intermediate we did not go to immediate prevent.”

On offensive plan: “Plan was to go with McKenzie as well as have drives with Jordan. As we got into the game, we stayed with McKenzie throughout. It was something everybody was on the same page with.”

“Offensively, there was no rhythm... Everything that it takes to be successful, offensively we did not do.”
