Ohio State receives great recruiting news at an unexpected time on Saturday while blowing out Indiana

Ohio State received a big recruiting win on Saturday during their game against Indiana that wasn’t exactly expected coming into the day. While the Buckeyes were taking care of business against the Hoosiers on the field, they were building for the future off of it.

The Buckeyes have once again landed another five-star wide receiver. Brian Hartline and Ohio State have gained a commitment from 2027 five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown. Brown is ranked the No. 2 wide receiver in the class of 2027 and the No. 6 overall player.

Brown becomes the first 2027 commit for the Buckeyes and Ohio State starts out the class with a five-star wide receiver just like they did for the 2026 group with Chris Henry Jr. Brown is a 5-foot-11 wideout out of Dayton, Ohio, and attends Wayne High School. The talented wide receiver has nearly 25 offers with schools like Notre Dame, Penn State, Miami, Michigan, and Auburn having offered.

After this season, the Buckeyes will say goodbye to Emeka Egbuka and will lean on Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate next season. Tate can leave after the 2025 season for the draft, but Smith is not draft-eligible until the 2027 draft. By the time Brown is in Columbus, he and Henry Jr. may be the top two wideouts on the team.

In this era of college football, getting a recruit to commit in the class of 2027 is super early. Brown is currently a sophomore in high school, though one of the best wide receivers in the country.

This commitment allows the Buckeyes to start the 2027 class off with a bang and a big get. Keeping an in-state five-star from leaving the state borders is a win for Ryan Day and his staff.
