Arizona State shocked the college football world last season, being crowned Big 12 champions in a dominant 45-19 win over Iowa State.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt will return to the field with hopes of taking the Sun Devils back to the top of the conference. On3’s Andy Staples released his top 10 quarterbacks in the Big 12 heading into next season, with Leavitt taking the No. 1 spot.

Leavitt threw for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns last season, while only having four interceptions. Star running back Cam Skattebo garnered a lot of attention with his versatility not only as a runner, but as a receiving back. Leavitt will not be able to rely on Skattebo this season since the New York Giants selected him in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Entering his second season with the program, Leavitt returns as one of the most accurate passers in the nation, earning the top spot.

Right behind Leavitt lies Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson, who had a solid campaign in 2024. He recorded 2,712 passing yards and 25 touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 9-4 record.

Johnson will be the starter for the second-straight season with the expectation of leading KSU to its fifth consecutive year with at least eight wins.

Utah had a disappointing 5-7 record in 2024 despite a hot 4-0 start. The Utes had five losses decided by one possession and saw four different quarterbacks start throughout the season.

With New Mexico transfer Devon Dampier leading the way, the team should have more stability at the quarterback position. He is a true dual-threat playmaker who threw for 2,768 yards and eclipsed 1,000 yards on the ground. The newest Ute earned the No. 3 spot on Staples’ rankings.

The top five rounded out with Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson and Iowa State’s Rocco Becht. Robertson caught fire as last season progressed, helping the Bears win six of their last seven outings.

Becht led the Cyclones to the Big 12 title game, passing for over 3,500 yards and totaling 33 touchdowns in 2024. His top target, Jaylin Noel, was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft, but Becht is still expected to be among the top quarterbacks in the conference.

Josh Hoover (TCU) was ranked sixth, followed by Jalon Daniels (Kansas), Kaidon Salter (Colorado), Behren Morton (Texas Tech), and Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati) to close out the top 10.
