Shedeur Sanders is heading to the NFL, but his father Deion is staying at Colorado.
Deion coached his sons Shedeur and Shilo at Colorado after previously working with them at Jackson State. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has been asked numerous times if he wants to coach in the pros, and Deion has always said no, though he did leave open the possibility of making the jump if he could coach his two sons again.
Shedeur, however, through cold water on that scenario during an episode of his "2Legendary" podcast last week.
"Me and pops had a good run, but all good things must come to an end," Shedeur said, via 247Sports."The thing is, it's different if you didn't know it was going to come to an end one day and it just happened, but you were always ready mentally for that day. It's not that big of a surprise or that big of a deal, because mentally, I already knew that. I feel like I've got the life tools."
At Jackson State and Colorado, Deion turned around both programs with the help of his sons.
During the recent NFL Scouting Combine, Shedeur cited that success as a reason why rebuilding NFL teams should be looking to bring him in.
“We went from Jackson State to Colorado and changed two programs back-to-back,” Sanders said. “You don’t think I could come to an NFL franchise and change a program again? It’s history. It’s always going to repeat itself.”
“If you’re not trying to change the franchise or the culture, don’t get me,” Sanders added. “If you have those traits of greatness, and I know where I’m heading, then why wouldn’t the franchise pick me? You got the ultimate cheat code.”
Perhaps history will repeat itself, even if Deion won't be there this time around. Still, don't be surprised if Shedeur's team struggles and you hear people suggesting they hire Deion to help get the worm turned.
