Utah Utes Tight End Caleb Lohner Improves Draft Stock With Impressive 40-Yard Dash

Caleb Lohner established himself as an elite red zone target in his lone season with Utah, and while he wasn't able to show much of what he can do in the open field, his performance at Big 12 Pro Day gave scouts a glimpse.

The 6-foot-7 250-pound tight end recorded four receptions on the year for 54 yards and four touchdowns solidifying himself as a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses within the five-yard line.

The two-sport athlete also played basketball for the Runnin' Utes this season in which he tallied 2.8 points per game on a 54.9% clip from the field while also averaging two rebounds per game and 0.7 assists per game from the frontcourt.

Lohner joined 1,000-yard rusher Micah Bernard at the Big 12 Pro Day, and both participated in the 40-yard dash in their first attempt to impress scouts and improve their draft stocks ahead of Utah's own pro day.

Bernard ran a 4.50 40-yard dash which is pretty impressive considering he has always been more of a power back than a speed back, however, Lohner stole the show and the headlines with his attempt.

Lohner is already an anomaly at his size and weight, but his time in the 40-yard dash turned heads as he ran a whopping 4.60 which in turn intrigued not only scouts but also fans who kept track of the results as a whole.

His time signals some serious open-field potential and could be the best case for him to be used as an every-down tight end who creates matchup nightmares throughout the game instead of exclusively in goal-to-go situations.
