Washington to Move On From Jimmie Dougherty

Washington football is expected to move on from offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty. The former Husky coordinator had been a long-time assistant of Jedd Fisch, dating back to the 2016 season. At Michigan, Dougherty was an offensive assistant while Fisch served as the quarterbacks and receivers coach in 2016. A year later, the two went to UCLA, where Fisch served as the offensive coordinator and interim head coach for a year, while Dougherty served as the receivers coach. The two reunited in 2021 when Fisch took over the head coaching duties at Arizona. He hired Dougherty as his quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in Tucson. Dougherty followed Fisch to Seattle in 2024 and was promoted to offensive coordinator before the 2025 season.

Washington, Dougherty Part Ways

Prior to the 2025 campaign at Washington, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that Dougherty had drawn interest from NFL organizations. He opted to stay in Seattle with the new job title. He became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and would continue coaching the dynamic quarterback Demond Williams. While Fisch calls the plays, Dougherty was instrumental in game planning and in-game decision-making for the Husky offense. Dougherty coached on game days from the press box. He was the only position coach to do so. This coaching tactic provided an alternate perspective on the field for Fisch as he navigated the game. But now, as the Huskies are about six weeks from the start of spring practice, Washington is expected to move on from Dougherty as its coordinator. It’s the second season in a row where the Huskies are set to replace their offensive coordinator. The move, while significant in terms of the open coordinator position, is not entirely surprising. The NFL has seemingly been interested in Dougherty’s services for at least a calendar year. On top of that, Washington’s assistant quarterbacks coach and quality control coach in 2025, JP Losman, has earned an increased role within the program since last year. In early February, Fisch noted that Losman’s responsibilities had extended to recruiting trips. He has been on the road already this year recruiting high school prospects. Dougherty, on the other hand, has not been appearing on those recruiting trips across social media as he did in years past.
