WVU Adds Louisville Defensive Back Transfer

West Virginia picks up a big-time commitment in the portal at a much needed area of the roster - the secondary. Moments ago, former Louisville defensive back Josh Minkins Jr. announced his pledge to the Mountaineers.

Minking chose WVU over offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, and Tulsa.

In 2022, Minkins played a big part in the Cardinals' defense recording 55 tackles, three pass breakups, one sack, one interception, and a forced fumble. Minkins started the team's opener against Georgia Tech this season but missed some time with a hamstring injury. Once he returned to action, he saw his playing time decrease and fell into more of a rotational role with Cam'Ron Kelly and Devin Neal. He finished the season with 21 tackles in eight games (three starts).

"When healthy, Minkins provides a solid presence on the back end of the secondary. He is versatile in the fact that he is comfortable both playing up high as a free safety and in the box as a strong safety. He's more so suited as the latter, considering tackling one-on-one is his strong suit, and sometimes struggles a touch in coverage. Injury history is a bit of a concern as well."

Minkins has one year of eligibility remaining.
