England have bounced back strongly after being humbled by New Zealand in the tournament opener to claim their first points of the 2023 World Cup. The writing was on the wall for Bangladesh as the defending champions posted an enormous 364/9, with Malan stroking a big hundred and Root and Bairstow chipping in with fifties. The chase began on an inauspicious note for the Asian Tigers with Reece Topley prising out three wickets in his first spell. Litton Das held fort for Bangladesh with an ebullient 76, but the target just proved to be beyond Bangladesh’s reach.

Having won the toss and have opted to field at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala, Bangladesh weren’t able to vindicate the decision as England scored steadily through the opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan. The defending champions have glided to 113-0 after 17 overs. Malan shared hundred stands with both Bairstow (52) and Root to lay the platform for England’s robust total before Bangladesh operated well at the death to restrict their fancied opponents below 400.
