England’s batting implosion on a rather benign Rajkot pitch on Day 3 continued to haunt them as India built on the lead on the fourth morning. Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the foundation with his second hundred of the series on the previous day while Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav kept up the good work after the left-handed opener retired hurt.
India ended the third day of the Rajkot Test at 196/2, having lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Rajat Patidar, who threw away his wicket to a long hop for the second time in the match. The last time India took first innings leads in excess of 100 in each of the first three Tests of a home series was against Sri Lanka in 1993/94 (293, 310 & 239). The visitors were sent packing for just 319 in the first innings after being 224/2 at one stage.
