Jos Buttler, at the toss, mentioned that he wanted to give some overs to his bowlers and he’d be happy with the way the England attack fared. Reece Topley picked up a couple of wickets upfront and then nailed a yorker at the death. Mark Wood bowled quick as usual and removed a well-set batter. Adil Rashid nipped out two experienced campaigners in the middle overs. David Willey picked back-to-back wickets to confine Bangladesh to 188 in a rain-marred innings.

With the bat, England came out all guns blazing, along expected lines. Dawid Malan got off the mark with a boundary but nicked off the very next ball. Jonny Bairstow hit a flurry of boundaries before copping a Mustafizur Rahman inswinger. Harry Brook too was dealing with boundaries but his sprightly innings came to a premature end when he was done in by a sharp in-seamer. Buttler scored a quickfire 30 before getting bounced out. Livingstone perished cheaply. Moeen Ali recorded a 37-ball fifty and his knock included six sixes. Joe Root, unlike his team-mates, was happy to play the sheet anchor and remained unbeaten till the end.
