Left-arm seamer Sam Curran proved expensive in the 1st ODI against West Indies as he conceded the most runs in a match by an England bowler in a fifty-over game. Curran gave away 98 runs and broke Steve Harmison’s record, who held the unwanted distinction by leaking 97 runs.

Curran, however, gave a good account of himself with the bat. He scored 38 (26), which featured three fours and two sixes. However, what caught the attention of the fans was that the southpaw batted wearing sunglasses.

Most of England’s batters got starts and five of them went past 30 but only Harry Brook managed to kick on to fifty as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals but managed to put an imposing 325 on the board nonetheless. In reply, West Indies captain Shai Hope scored a superb 109 off 83 balls, which included seven sixes and four fours as the hosts chased down the above-par total with 1.1 overs to spare.
