Ricky Ponting played an important part in winning Australia the 2003 ODI World Cup finals against India. The Australian captain scored a mammoth 140* off 121, hitting eight maximums.

After the loss, many Indians joked that Ponting had a spring in his bat that helped him in hitting those sixes. Twenty-one years after the finals, Ponting finally spoke about the rumors of the ‘spring bat’.

Delhi Capitals (DC) recently uploaded a video where content creator Satish Ray tried to get Ricky Ponting to talk about the spring bat. Ponting kept on denying the rumors before mocking the influencer.

Spring bat? I’ve never even heard of a spring bat. What is a spring bat? Is it in the handle? Is it inside the face of the bat? I’ve never heard of it. Obviously it's been spoken about in India, not in Australia. There is no such thing as a spring bat. You should all go and do your homework. Ricky Ponting said

Ponting scored 415 runs in the 2003 ODI World Cup. The Australian captain has led his team to consecutive World Cup finals and won in 2007 as well. He didn’t win the World Cup in his final attempt, being knocked out by eventual champions India.

Ricky Ponting reveals he has kept a collection of bats used for each century

Ricky Ponting has scored 71 international centuries, the 3rd most. He is behind Indian batters Virat Kohli (80) and Sachin Tendulkar (100).

In an event, he revealed he has kept all the bats he has scored centuries with. The DC coach said he has marked each bat with the score and the team it was against. This collection also includes the bat used in the 2003 ODI World Cup finals, which he has posted about before.

I kept every bat I scored an international hundred with and I write on it, the score and who it was against. It's not like it's displayed in my house. I keep those in my garage. Ricky Ponting in an event

Ponting currently coaches DC, a role he has held since 2018. DC had their best results under him, as the team reached the 2020 IPL finals. Since then they have reached the play-offs only once and are currently 6th in the 2024 IPL.
