20 of the most anticipated 2024 releases
One thing that keeps many going is future releases from albums to TV shows, but this is all about the big screen — films that audiences can’t wait to get tickets and a big bucket of popcorn to see in the coming year. From inside the mind of an already beloved character to a mean musical to a handful of sequels and more, these are the most anticipated movie releases of 2024.
‘Inside Out 2’
Cue that “Emotional Damage” song because those who thought 2015’s Inside Out was an emotional rollercoaster (no pun intended) haven’t seen anything yet because the sequel will feature Riley entering her teenage years. Younger fans will have fun with the vivid colors of Joy, Fear, and the rest of the gang, but adults who take it in will be a wreck watching one of the newest members of Riley’s mind: Anxiety.
‘Beetlejuice 2’
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice has one of the most dedicated fan bases that the director really took a gamble in saying this bio-exorcist’s name three times to deliver a sequel almost 40 years later, but he was able to get most of the original cast back together, and even added Wednesday star Jenna Ortega to the mix.
‘Furiosa’
It’s time to take a look at how Furiosa came to be in this prequel of sorts to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road with Anya Taylor-Joy as the lead.
‘Deadpool 3’
Wolverine in the blue and yellow suit? In live-action? Yes. Please.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’
There aren’t enough good-natured movies out there that people of all ages can enjoy, but every movie so far in the Sonic franchise is just that, so there’s no doubt the third installment will be any different.
‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’
The Strangers series is expanding with Chapter 1, and horror fans everywhere cannot wait to see how it unfolds with Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch.
‘The Fall Guy’
Ryan Gosling is back after his scene-stealing role in 2023's Barbie to shine a light on the often unsung heroes of cinema: the stunt crews who make all the action look real as he steps into the role as one opposite Emily Blunt.
‘Twisters’
Twister is one of the most adored movies of the ‘90s, but it’s getting a modern-day reimagining so that a new generation can get really into storm chasing.
‘Borderlands’
Movies based on video games have a lot to live up to, but if anyone can bring the world of Borderlands to life, it's Eli Roth.
‘Wicked’
The hit musical is getting a movie makeover with one of the most stacked casts in musical cinema history: Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
‘Despicable Me 4’
It’s not easy to create an animated franchise that has such lasting power. So bless the aunts of Facebook who’ve kept Minions in the mainstream long enough for kids to get a fourth movie.
‘Madame Web’
Marvel is taking fans deeper into the spider realm with Madame Web, which will introduce 50 Shades of Grey 's Dakota Johnson as the titular character and Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Celeste O'Connor as two different Spider-Woman characters.
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’
Ghostbusters: Afterlife paid a beautiful homage to the original ‘80s series and allowed itself to pave a path of its own. Now, this new crop of characters is finally ready to continue their story with Frozen Empire.
‘A Quiet Place: Day One’
If there is one thing A Quiet Place is going to do, it’s to deliver a movie based on every second and from as many different perspectives as it can until it can’t anymore.
‘The Electric State’
Fans of the graphic novel The Electric State are hyped they're getting Millie Bobby Brown as the lead in the Netflix film set to hit the streaming service in 2024.
‘Mean Girls’
A movie musical? How fetch.
‘Scream 7’
Another year, another Scream.
‘Lisa Frankenstein’
Diablo Cody, the woman behind movies like Juno and Jennifer’s Body , wrote it, but the late Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, directed this comedic horror film that has a little romance tossed into the mix.
‘Dune: Part Two’
Any reason to see Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, right?
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’
Get ready for another wave of Joker and Harley Quinn Halloween costumes.
