'American Idol' sets premiere date for 20th overall season

"American Idol" was revived by ABC in May 2017 after a successful run on FOX from 2002-16.

That makes the forthcoming season of "American Idol" its fifth consecutive and 20th overall, and it now has a February 2022 premiere date.

Ryan Seacrest will return as host, as will Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie as judges. That has been the group holding "Idol" down since the rebooted franchise debuted in March 2018.

The reigning champion is Chayce Beckham, crowned the Season 19 winner during the May 23 finale episode.
