Angelina Jolie gushes over her six kids: 'My children's kindness has been very healing to me'

Angelina Jolie has been embroiled in an ugly custody battle since she filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in late 2016, which "closed on the appellate level" on Wednesday (Oct. 27).

The 46-year-old actress and humanitarian opened up about the six children at the center of that battle in the latest issue of People.

"They're pretty great people," Jolie told the publication, "and because there's so many of them, I think they've had a very significant effect on each other. It's not like I'm the head of anything. I'm very honest with my kids. And I'm very human with my kids."

Jolie and Pitt share Maddox, 20, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and fraternal twins Knox and Vivienne, 13. The former A-list couple first met on the set of the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. Jolie and Pitt became engaged in 2012, marrying in 2014.

"I have six very individual human beings in my home," the Oscar winner added. "I am so excited about all the different stages and feelings and curiosities that they go through. Why wouldn't you be? We're supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can't figure out who they are if you don't enthusiastically develop with them."

Jolie concluded: "I'm not a perfect parent by any means. Every day I feel like I'm more aware of everything I don't do right. And I'm pretty tough on myself, because I feel often, 'Am I doing the right thing? Did I says the right thing?' ... My children have done many, many loving things. My children's kindness has been very healing to me."

The kids, excluding Pax, have been joining their mother for the premieres of Marvel Studios' Eternals in Los Angeles, Rome and the U.K.:

Jolie stars as Thena in Eternals, which hits theaters Nov. 5. Watch the trailer below.
